How to stop workflow from generating new workitem id whenever user clicks on the back button

Hi All,

My requirement is to stop workflow from generating W2 and keep W1 in READY state when user clicks on back button. For eg.

Workflow is triggered and email is sent to user A. workitem W1 is created in READY state.

User A opens workitem W1 and does not take any action and clickson BACK Button.

This again generated another workitem W2 in ready state and W1 now shows COMPLETED state.

We have identified the condition to know when user clicks on back button: which is WE CHECK next state.

If its Blank, then it is this condition.

This is required since we also have another workflow for deadline monitoring which generates new deadline notification when user clicks on back button.

Please give suggestions for this requirement.

I have already tried manually changing status from COMPLETED  TO READY via program exit event AFTER_EXECUTION but it dumps (obviously)

I am attaching the screen shot of the workflow template.
