How to disable UDF in Workflow?

Hi,

I wanted to ask how what is the required syntax to disable a UDF in Workflow?  For example, user A starts a new workflow instance for adding a Purchase Order.  There a UDF called PO Approved I don’t want user A to edit. How can I disable the PO Approved UDF for user A in a script?
