Programmed binding help

Hello all,

I have a material workflow based off of a custom BO which has a key of material number. The requirement is to show in the task description the MRP Controller and Purchasing Org  both from the MARC table - if they are populated. I have been able to pass these values in through my enhancement spot where I am firing the events for material creation and material extension in the INPUT_CONTAINER. It works just fine.

The problem I have is that during the processing of the various workflow steps, these values could be updated to something else. I need to be able to capture the new values and update the task description in the work item. For each department there is an activity step for MM02 then a decision step asking the user if he/she is ready to forward the workflow to the next department. I tried creating a custom method that looks to see if there is a new value and update it in the description but it is working too late in the process. I tried adding this method in the Methods tab of the work items but it will not update until the user closes the work item and reopens it.

I have been reading on programmed binding using a function module and possibly changing the values within the binding in the target container. I have not found enough on it to know if it will actually work or how to use it.

Can anyone provide some insight/help on this or offer advice on something that would work? FYI - I cannot add plant as part of the key because this workflow is used to create materials at times when only basic views are populated. I have considered taking that scenario into an entirely different workflow just to solve this issue and it is not entirely off the table yet. For now, I am looking to see if there is another way.

Thanks,

D. Scott
