Need help checking event parameter in check function module

For the VIEWCREATED event of BUS1001006, I have a workflow and I am trying to write a check function module to restrict when it fires. In my fm, I need to check the value of the parameter in the event container for Maintenance Status. I have tried to create a workflow container import/export object to pass the value from the event container to the workflow container and I can see in the log it does get populated but when I check the value of this in my check fm, it is triggering the event no matter what I use. It seems to not be passing any value to the check fm for this object.

Is there another way to access the parameter for the event container from the check fm?
